Elm Lodge, operated by Integra Community Living Options, part of National Care Group, is celebrating a rating of ‘Good’ across the board following an unannounced inspection by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW).
Elm Lodge is a residential service based in the centre of Carmarthen providing support and accommodation to adults with mental health diagnoses and other complex support needs.
The ‘ratings’ system is a new way of working for CIW with Elm Lodge being the first of National Care Group’s Wales-based services to achieve a rating.
The report stated:
“People are happy with the care and support they receive from care staff that are knowledgeable and engaging. Opportunities are provided for people to make choices and decisions and their independence is promoted.”
“The environment is homely and comfortable and meets the needs of the individuals. The atmosphere in the home is calm and relaxed.”
One of the people supported at Elm Lodge said:
“All staff have their own sparks of brilliance; they tell me I can do it and then I believe it!”.
Elm Lodge is dedicated to the wellbeing of the people supported, which was highlighted in the report:
“People’s rights are upheld. Their voices are heard, and they have control over their day-to-day lives as much as possible because they are involved in developing and reviewing their personal plans and setting goals. Care staff support them to do what matters to them, including regaining their independence and having an active role in the community. There is a focus on developing social and daily living skills to promote independence and reduce the risk of social isolation when people leave the service.”
Registered manager of Elm Lodge, Kathleen Lloyd, commented;
“We have been reassured by the rating and the positive feedback in the report that our expert and passionate team are delivering a quality service, dedicated to unlocking the potential of those we support. From service delivery, and the comments from the people we support on their experience of living at Elm Lodge, to our management and leadership, I am immensely proud of all we achieve as a team. The successful result was reinforced by the inspector’s parting words, saying she would have given us a ‘very good’ if she could have.”
