Our Star Baker for Frontline Workers Day is announced

ELIZABETH CASS FROM STEPS RESIDENTIAL CARE IS CROWNED STAR BAKER!

As part of our Big Garden Party celebrations in honour of Frontline Workers Day on Monday 5 July, we held a company wide bake-off challenge to find our National Care Group Star Baker 2021!

To reflect the tone of the day, the baking theme was ‘love’ and bakers could choose their type of preferred bakes ranging from cupcakes to Victoria sponge or tarts.

Fourteen of our services from across England and Wales took part and the standard of entry was super high. Judges had to choose between some showstoppers worthy of being entered into the real Great British Bake-Off.

In absence of a taste test and being able to check for soggy-bottoms, the judges made their decision based upon appearance and meeting the love theme challenge.

We are delighted to announce this year's National Care Group star baker is Elizabeth Cass from Steps Residential Care in Rotherham for her heart and rainbow cupcakes which were enjoyed by her colleagues and individuals we support at their garden party. Her hearts represented the love theme challenge and the rainbows represented frontline workers.

The judges also acknowledged close runners-up, the People We Support at East View The Grange, for their very technical rainbow layer cake and also the People We Support at Lord Nelson House for going the extra mile by holding their own local bake-off (thanks to service manager Marie Roberts) and creating a big selection of cakes for all to enjoy!

Huge well done to our creative bakers, here’s a round-up of all the cakes for you to admire.

And stop press - here is our National Care Group star baker Elizabeth Cass who has just received the first part of her prize which we're sure she'll be sharing with all her lovely colleagues at Steps in Rotherham.
