Marie receives Highly Commended by the Great British Care Awards
Well done to Marie Roberts, our Highly Commended Frontline Leader!

We just found out that Marie Roberts, Service Manager at Lord Nelson House, received the Highly Commended title at the Great British Care Awards East of England regional finals last week and we couldn't be prouder!

Marie was nominated by her area operations manager in the Frontline Leader award category. Nominated for knowing no barriers in her commitment to care, Marie was announced as a finalist and attended the awards ceremony along with other shortlisted National Care Group colleagues last week.

We were delighted to find out after the event that Marie had been awarded the Highly Commended title in her category. This is in addition to Ellie Baldwin winning her care home worker of the year award, doubling NCG's success at the regional finals.

The judges had this to say about Marie:

Highly Commended: Marie Roberts, Lord Nelson House

Marie has clearly made a big change to the service over the last 12 months. Her extensive background in care has allowed her to be a well-rounded and passionate leader.

Congratulations to Marie! please read her nomination:

I wish to nominate Marie Roberts, Service Manager at Lord Nelson House, part of National Care Group, for being an inspirational frontline leader to her team and knowing no barriers in her commitment to bringing joy to the people she supports. Lord Nelson is home to 11 residents with learning disabilities, autism and/or complex needs. Marie started her career there as a support worker and worked her way up to service manager. On being promoted, she quickly won the respect of her team, going out of her way to make time for everyone, no matter how busy or frantic she was in her new role. Always setting examples as a frontline leader, she’s a great problem solver completely committed to finding the best solutions for everyone she supports. A good example is the way she organised the COVID vaccine for the residents and team when the doctors announced they weren’t a priority. She was determined to change the decision. She fought with the local surgery to get them escalated, not letting the matter drop until they were booked in as vulnerable/urgent, ahead of the Government’s decision to prioritise care homes. She’s also regularly commended by the support circles of the people we support and the local authorities she deals with. East Norfolk’s nursing assistant practitioner on their learning disabilities team recently wrote to National Care Group commending her: “..I want to get in contact to let you know I’ve been working closely with Marie Roberts manager at Lord Nelson House and wanted to say how great she’s been. Marie’s really helped with moving forward with some difficult patients and families and has spent a great deal of time sorting hard situations. I think this deserves to be recognised. I very much look forward to continue working with Marie.”
