CHANGING LIVES | Kay and Kelly are recognised by Pollard's Promises
A Wish Can Come True | Kay and Kelly are treated to some retail therapy by Pollard's Promises

When registered manager, Kelly Smith from Endurance Care Worcestershire, spotted a post about the Pollard’s Promises initiative for support workers and people we support on National Care Group's colleague engagement app, she immediately thought of a remarkable lady they support called Kay.

Little did she know that Jodie, a senior support worker from her team, thought about Kelly herself!

Pollard’s Promises is a charity that recognises the importance of care and compassion towards others in the social care sector by granting wishes and creating happy memories for care workers and the people they support across the UK.

Kelly made a nomination to them for Kay who has lost an incredible 22 stone in the 22 months of moving into an Endurance Care Worcestershire service, beating diabetes, improving her mental health, becoming more mobile, more sociable, and securing a voluntary role at a local charity shop. Kelly was so proud of Kay’s achievements that she felt compelled to nominate her for a wish. In Kelly's words,

"Kay has achieved so very much that it is difficult to maintain such motivation. We reward her all the time, but recognition on this level from external people would just make her day, her month, and her year!"

Jodie made a nomination for Kelly to show appreciation for her as a manager, and also get her recognised for the hard work and support of the team following a challenging year of change. In Jodie's words,

"Kelly does so much for others and asks for nothing in return. It would be lovely if she could have a little recognition."

When Kelly opened an email from Lauren, the Head of Promises (what an amazing job title) at Pollard's Promises with the news of Kay's prize, she was overjoyed. It brightened up a day when she was feeling ill and a little blue. The hysteria really hit when Kelly went on to tell Kay. They gathered around with her housemates to break the news - Kay was over the moon!

Of course, there were tears of joy when Kelly discovered she'd been granted a wish by Jodie too!

They were treated to a shopping day and lunch at Merryhill Shopping Centre near Dudley in the West Midlands. Kelly shared her prize with Jodie. They shopped til they dropped, having lots of fun trying on the same outfits and making some purchases. Below are just a few of the special moments they captured on the day:

Kay said: "Today was amazing! Thank you so so much, a big shopping spree was just what we needed"
