My name is Lorraine Jarman and I am the Head for Referrals for National Care Group covering the South East of England.
I’ve worked with people who have learning disabilities all my working life. I started out over 35 years ago as a Learning Disability Nurse and went on to spend many years managing Registered Care and Supported Living support for adults with learning disabilities and autism. Over the last 20 years I have worked for two London based learning disability charities, managing a short breaks service for children and adults and an advice and support services for families.
More recently It has been my pleasure to work in partnership with families developing bespoke accommodation-based support offers for young people with autism and complex needs who fall within the Transforming Care criteria. I believe it is essential that we work in equal partnership with families as they have unique knowledge and understanding of the person which they have acquired over a lifetime of knowing and loving them. By working in equal partnership with people we support and their families we empower and enable people to achieve the great lives they aspire to.
My role within National Care Group is to ensure that people get the right support, from the right people, in the right place. To accomplish this, we must understand the uniqueness of every person we support. We must know what’s important to the person as well as what’s important for that person and understand their dreams, aspirations, and relationships. It’s often the small things that make a big difference to people so understanding the detail of what a great life feels like to the person is essential.
If you are looking for accommodation-based support for someone please get in touch. I would be happy to talk to you about the support offers that are currently available in the South East.
