Janice, who has a learning disability, lived with her Mum until she sadly passed away in 2020. Her Mum had been her full time carer and Janice had since been trying to live completely independently which was proving too difficult.

An initial assessment was arranged between local authority partners and National Care Group's referrals team. Stephanie White, the Registered Manager of Merry Den, met Janice in a local cafe to carry out the assessment. Janice's home surroundings declined after the passing of her Mum and had fallen into such disrepair that it wasn't possible for Stephanie to meet her there.

The assessment matched Janice to the support offered by Merry Den and Stephanie felt confident in making the arrangements for her to move in. As Janice had no furniture to bring with her, the Merry Den team visited a local up-cycling shop to make sure her room was ready for her arrival. They bought new bedding, towels, and toiletries to make her feel welcome and safe in her new surroundings. On the day of the move, they collected her and drove her to her new home as Janice had no family or friends to support her in the big move.

We are proud to report that Janice immediately loved her room commenting on how pretty it looked and has never looked back. Since moving in just a few weeks before, and with a personalised care plan in place, Janice has already made strides in improving the quality of her life and independence. With a new hygiene regime successfully embedded and new habits for getting ready in the morning happening each day, Janice is beaming with a new confidence and has even been on holiday to Burnham on Sea with other ladies supported by Merry Den.
