Zack's First Steps into Adulthood

Zack is taking his first steps into independent living

Meet Zack, who has joined the National Care Group Cornerstone’s family and is taking his first steps into independent living.

Zack has just moved out of his family home to live more independently in supported living and, in the words of his support workers, is completely smashing it!

Zack secured his own tenancy agreement and moved into a brand-new home in Devizes along with two other young gentlemen also taking their first steps into more independent living.

In the short time Zack has been living with the others, they have become good friends, coming together to socialise including attending local games nights. They will also welcome a fourth housemate soon, as they all begin settling into their new home.

New home, new beginnings

Not only is Zack making great strides into more independent living but is also supported to maintain a very active social diary including attending his part-time job.

Travelling independently by taxi, Zack makes his way to Palmer Gardens in Trowbridge twice a week. He assists with sweeping, weeding and watering the plants and has had great feedback from his colleagues.

Living his best life

Zack’s passion for gardening carries on when he’s back home, where he likes to take care of their outdoor space. He ensures the lawn is mowed regularly, always finishing it with very straight lines. He has also helped to create some flower beds on the front of the house which are currently in full bloom.

What the Cornerstone’s team said:

“Working with Zack is such a pleasure. Our role is to provide support as he develops his independent living skills, including helping him to plan activities and hobbies which involve trampolining, fit club and of course gardening!

We support him to go shopping and anything else he wants to do. It’s brilliant that he has settled into his new home so well and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Zack.”

Zack’s Mum, Annabel, beams with pride:

“We are so happy to see Zack thriving in his new home. It was a big step, and we were all a little nervous, but the support from National Care Group Cornerstones has been so reassuring. They held our hands every step of the way and made it an enjoyable process for Zack. He was ready for this move, and we are all very proud of him.”
