A Season of Giving

Embracing the festive season with green-thinking creativity and thought for others

Over the past month, National Care Group services across England and Wales have been embracing the festive season with green-thinking crafting and giving time to help others in their local communities.

We encouraged colleagues and people we support to take part in our ‘Festive Fun Challenge’, contributing to a greener Christmas, and a brighter future.

Our commitment to unlocking positive change, outlined in our sustainability promises, was at the heart of the festive fun. From upcycling household items for decorations, carol singing to raise funds for charity, to donating food hampers to vulnerable people in the community, colleagues and people we support went the extra mile with their creativity and thoughtfulness for others.

Challenge one: Green Christmas ♻️

Colleagues and people we support were asked to share their homemade, pre-loved or up-cycled festive decorations and clothing.

We were snow-balled over by the number of entries. Judges (the marketing elves) selected the following winners for this challenge:

  • Robert from Merry Den, who created a brilliant Christmas tree decoration from recycled ring pulls on cans.
  • People we support at St Patrick’s House and Pennings View impressed judges with their idea to upcycle old jars and make their own, homemade Christmas gifts for loved ones.

Challenge two: Community Spirit 🧑🏽‍🤝‍🧑🏼

Colleagues and supported people were asked to make the season brighter by sharing how they’re giving their time to help others.

Judges were amazed by the number of entries showcasing the positive contributions to local communities. The following activities were announced as the winners:

  • Yew Tree House put the sparkle into their community with a carol concert performed at their village church. They sang their hearts out to an audience of over 80 people, bringing joy to the village and raising funds for the church.
  • Affinity Supporting People, in Morecambe, came together to sing carols at a local supermarket and raised over £200 for Dementia UK. As well as supporting charity, they helped to spread festive cheer by putting smiles on the shoppers’ faces.

Santa's Little Helper's Special Prize 🎁

With so many entries to choose from, an extra prize was awarded to a group of people who pulled out all the stops this holiday period.

Links Day Service has up-cycled, raised funds, donated food packages, and brought sparkle and joy to community events. Judges were truly blown away by how they went above and beyond to support their local community and environment.
