Fiesta fun day brings families, friends and Gloucestershire services together

An annual fun day has become an important tradition for our Gloucestershire services, bringing people together to celebrate friendship, community and the achievements of the people we support.

Now in its fifth year, around 100 people joined this year’s much-loved fun day, with a fiesta vibes theme, which took place at a local village hall.

The event welcomed people from Merry Den and Chosen Supported Living, as well as residential services Yew Tree House and Chosen Court. Families, friends, colleagues past and present, and people from local social groups also joined the fun.

“The annual fun day is much more than an event. It's a chance for families, friends, colleagues, and professionals to come together and have a laugh. The event remains something everyone looks forward to each year, with memories valued by the people we support and their families.

"Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped put together another successful event!"

Fiesta fun, games, and live music

The fiesta vibes theme was chosen by the people we support. Everyone had the opportunity to choose their own costume and contributed towards the food and decorations. The result was a bright, joyful celebration.

The day was packed with lots of fun activities, including hook-a-duck, a piñata, a tombola, a raffle, and much more.

Janet, a person we support at Merry Den, set up a stall to sell her handmade crochet blankets. Homemade cakes from Merry Den colleague Gill were also loved by everyone!

Live music added to the atmosphere, with Ben’s mum, a person we support, and her friends performing jazz and a variety of other songs for everyone to enjoy.

Community contributions

Merry Den and Chosen Supported Living, Yew Tree House and Chosen Court have established relationships with the local community in and around Gloucestershire.

The event was also supported by many generous donations from local businesses, with contributions to the raffle and tombola. The money raised will go towards funding a festive Christmas party later in the year.

An unforgettable day

The day meant a great deal to everyone who attended.

Zoe from Chosen Court said: “I love to see everyone and my friends from other homes.”

Mark from Merry Den said: “I love dressing up and dancing with my friends.”

Debbie, Merry Den manager, said: “Today is all about coming together and seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces.”

Lesley, senior at Merry Den, added: “Everyone gets stuck in to make this day memorable; all the hard work pays off.”
