WalkaThon for World Autism Acceptance Month

Regent College learners and tutors walk 375km and raise £200 to support National Autistic Society

As part of fundraising efforts to support World Autism Acceptance Month, Regent College learners and tutors took part in a Walkathon.

Throughout the week, whenever there was an opportunity across the curriculum to get our steps in, learners and tutors got moving. This involved activities at college and in the community.

National Autistic Society set a challenge for World Autism Acceptance Month, encouraging people to get out and walk 5k.

We’re extremely proud to share that Regent College learners and tutors walked an impressive 375 km in total throughout the week, and raised £200!

Leah Lockley, Regent College tutor, said:

“The Walkathon was a great activity for everyone at Regent College to get involved in. Everyone who was at college took a variety of ways and support the National Autistic Society.

“Tutors and Session Leads had pedometers to record the steps taken in sessions. One learner used the information collated to work out the distance achieved, supporting his functional skills development. We were amazed when we realised the total distance we had all walked!

“Two learners made t-shirts promoting the event as they were unable to participate.

“One learner raised £100 alone by walking at home with his parents and family members.

“Well done to everyone involved!”
