Supporting Terry to Achieve his Ultimate Goal of Independent Living

Terry has been flourishing since moving into Albert Road

Terry has been flourishing since moving into Albert Road and is making remarkable progress towards achieving his ultimate goal of independent living.

About Terry

Terry is a person we support with an acquired brain (ABI), schizophrenia, diabetes, and anxiety diagnosis.

Before moving into Albert Road, Terry lived in a residential care home where everything was done for him.

At National Care Group, we empower the people we support to unlock their full potential.

The dedicated Albert Road team devised a personalised plan with Terry to support his journey to gain greater control in his life. His ultimate goal is to live independently and have a girlfriend.

Terry’s achievements

We’re so proud of the goals Terry has achieved since moving into Albert Road.

With support from passionate colleagues, he has gained the skills and confidence to prepare his meals and engage more with people we support who also live in the house.

~ Improved diet and independence

Terry has developed independence and makes his own meals. With support from colleagues, he contributes to menu planning and chooses healthier options on his shopping list.

His favourite food is pizza. Instead of buying a frozen one and putting it in the oven, Terry now enjoys making his own from scratch, which he says tastes so much better!

~ Independent living skills and engagement

Over time, Terry has gained the confidence to use the communal kitchen to prepare and eat his meals and socialise with housemates. Previously, he would not engage with others and sit in his bedroom.

Another achievement is that Terry, with support from colleagues, uses the tin opener to open his tins of soup. Not only has this enhanced his hand-eye coordination, it has also improved the dexterity in his hands.
