Supporting Wildlife and Agriculture in Great Yarmouth
People we support have played a huge part in a local agricultural project by helping to transform a former wasteland into a haven for wildlife and growing crops.
The agricultural project is led by The Bread Kitchen, an award-winning community training provider that delivers learning engagement opportunities across Great Yarmouth.
Over the past few months, Stephen and Megan from Endurance Care have been supported to be part of a community of volunteers who cleared land that was previously full of brambles and wild willow.
The land will be used to grow fruits and vegetables for the local community. A herd of sheep, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, and goats also live on the land. Stephen and Megan enjoy feeding and petting the animals.
Being part of the community project has empowered the people we support to develop confidence, form friendships, and learn new skills.
Mark Palmer is the Service Manager at Endurance Care. He is extremely passionate about giving back to the community and set up The Bread Kitchen partnership.
He said:
“When I first met with the people behind The Bread Kitchen, I immediately knew it was something we should support as the outcomes from the project are something that would benefit many people in the local area.
“My colleague Colleen supports Stephen and Megan to attend The Bread Kitchen every week. They have made a large group of friends that laugh together and enjoy each other’s company. And above all, they all have an absolute blast!"
Colleen added:
“I love attending The Bread Kitchen with the people we support. Watching Stephen flourish since starting gives me such a sense of pride!”
