The people we support from our Gloucestershire services recently proved that learning about health is best done together. In a gathering of supported living and residential services from across the area, we partnered with the NHS and Inclusion Gloucestershire to host a pilot awareness session focused on bowel cancer and healthy eating for adults over 40 with learning disabilities.
The afternoon was an empowering session for everyone. By providing “easy read” information and goody bags, the people we support were given tools to take charge of their own wellbeing.
Our Gloucestershire team and partners put energy into making a sensitive subject accessible, informative, and most importantly, fun!
It wasn’t your typical health awareness session. The group got stuck in with some “hands-on” clay modelling to understand digestive health and created collage boards to explore healthy eating habits.
Everyone’s feedback was that it was incredibly interesting and a great way to tackle an important topic.
“A huge thank you to our NHS partners and Inclusion Gloucestershire for making this event happen. The engagement and feedback it received are a wonderful example of what we can achieve when we work together to support healthy, happy lives.”
