Coppice Lodge, in Kidderminster, is celebrating the recent upgrade of their Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’ across all key criteria: Safe, Effective, Responsive, Caring and Well-led.
Inspectors carried out an unannounced inspection between 23 April and 13 May 2026. The CQC report, published in June 2026, highlights a positive culture, a dedicated new manager, and our commitment to high-quality person-centred support.
“We are delighted that CQC has recognised the high quality of support the Coppice Lodge team provides every day, noting our passion and dedication to support people to live their best lives.
“We are particularly proud that the report highlights our strong culture, collaborative approach, and commitment to continuous improvement, with CQC acknowledging that people living at Coppice Lodge were supported in a homely, welcoming, and clean environment, which National Care Group has significantly invested in.”~ Karen Lewis, Chief Operating Officer, National Care Group
Since the previous inspection in 2019, Coppice Lodge has undergone significant improvements, including the appointment of new registered manager, Suzanne.
In particular, the report acknowledged that Suzanne had “developed an open and transparent culture where staff understood their responsibilities to raise concerns and recognised the importance of being open. The manager demonstrated passion and commitment to enabling people living at Coppice Lodge to live their best lives.”
National Care Group has made significant investments in Coppice Lodge. The report published by CQC noted “improvements had been made to the environment, with a full refurbishment completed. The service was homely, welcoming and clean.”
The report also highlighted “people using the service appeared relaxed in the company of staff. They told us they felt confident any concerns raised would be taken seriously and addressed by the registered manager.”
The CQC report repeatedly acknowledged that people living at Coppice Lodge are empowered to live their best lives. Some highlights include:
“Staff encouraged people to live healthier lives and, where possible, take steps to reduce their future need for care and support. We saw staff promote independence and support people to have control over how they chose to spend their time.”
“Leaders promoted a positive, inclusive culture focused on helping people live their best lives. The registered manager and staff valued people’s individuality, encouraged open communication, and kept care under review to ensure it reflected people’s changing needs and wishes.”
To mark the achievement, Coppice Lodge held a celebration in their garden.
Colleagues from National Care Group, people we support at Coppice Lodge and the support team, alongside people from nearby supported living services, all joined in the celebrations (see photos).
Registered manager Suzanne shared her immense pride in the team’s hard work, saying:
“I’m incredibly proud of my team. The report reflects our passion and collaboration with the people we support every day. We are a well-knit team who strive to empower the people we are supporting to live their best lives. That is part of our motto, ‘everyone is encouraged to live their best life.’ The inspectors saw first-hand the hard work that we as a team, and National Care Group, have put in to achieve amazing things at Coppice Lodge since the reopening.”
