Achieving Healthy Living Goals Together

We’re celebrating Jess, Megan, and Gaby, people we support at one of our supported living houses, who empower one another to achieve their healthy living goals

Jess, Megan, and Gaby are a group of friends who each have a learning disability. They are tenants at one of our Endurance Care Worcestershire Supported Living houses. At National Care Group, we empower people to achieve their goals.

Jess, Megan, and Gaby developed a personalised support plan with colleagues at Endurance Care Worcestershire to work towards their healthier living goals. This includes maintaining regular exercise and improving healthy eating habits.

Exercising Together

As part of their plan, Jess, Megan, and Gaby attend exercise classes together at a local leisure centre, with support from colleagues.

Their weekly exercise schedule includes Zumba, Boogie Broadway, and swimming. Although it’s hard work, they really enjoy it!

When the weather is mild, they even walk there and back to add more steps to their daily exercise.

In addition to attending exercise classes, Jess and Megan walk to work a few times a week.

Cooking Together

Jess, Megan, and Gaby have also been developing independent living skills as part of their goals.

Gaby’s mum bought her a Slimming World cookbook. With support from colleagues, they use it to help create a menu plan each week, buy the ingredients from the supermarket, follow the step-by-step recipes, and cook nutritious meals together.

Jess’ favourite meal to cook is a healthy alternative of macaroni cheese.

Gaby enjoys meals that include salmon.

Megan loves a healthy filled jacket potato.

Gaby’s mum also bought a food blender for the house. So far, Jess, Megan, and Gaby have followed instructions in the cookbook to make carrot and coriander soup, red pepper soup, and vegetable soup.

Achieving Goals Together

With a shared passion and goal of living healthier, it’s bringing them closer as friends.

Kelly Smith, Registered Manager at Endurance Care Worcestershire, said:

“It’s lovely seeing the ladies empower one another with their healthy living goals and grow even closer as friends.

“With the dedication and support of our team, they are motivated and have adapted to their lifestyle changes. They are happier, healthier, and more independent as a result. What’s more, they have lost weight, which is a bonus for them.

“Well done Jess, Megan, and Gaby. The Endurance Care Worcestershire family is so proud of you. Keep it up!”

A very proud mum

Gaby’s family is grateful for the support from colleagues at National Care Group’s Endurance Care Worcestershire, who empower Gaby to achieve her healthy living goal.

Alison, Gaby’s mum, said:

“Gaby’s dad, George, and I very much appreciate the current focus on healthy lifestyles. We wholeheartedly thank the staff team for the support they give Gaby and her housemates to improve their health and wellbeing.

“In my role as a learning disability carer representative, I sit on LeDeR working groups which look at the lives and deaths of people with learning disabilities and try to find ways to improve health outcomes.

“Healthy lifestyles are one of LeDeR’s high impact aims this year. We know that where supported living providers take a ‘whole house approach’, it can lead to real change.”
