Empowered to thrive at Steps

Annaliese’s inspiring journey to health, happiness and independence

Before moving to Steps, our residential service in Rotherham, Annaliese had spent 12 years living primarily in the front room of her family home. As a result, her opportunities for independence, social activities, and community involvement had become limited.

With the right support, determination, and encouragement from the passionate team at Steps, her life has been transformed in ways that once seemed unimaginable.

Empowered to live a healthier life

Alongside her dedicated support team, Annaliese devised a personalised plan to improve her health and well-being.

Through a combination of healthy lifestyle choices, increased activity, and ongoing support from those around her, she lost an incredible nine stone!

This achievement not only improved her physical health but also boosted her confidence and opened the door to new opportunities and experiences.

Supporting Annaliese through challenging times

Just as Annaliese was embracing a more active and independent lifestyle, she received the difficult diagnosis of myeloma cancer. Despite the uncertainty and challenges that followed, she approached her treatment journey with remarkable courage and resilience.

Throughout this time, her support team worked closely with her, healthcare professionals, and her family. They provided consistent encouragement, emotional support and practical assistance to ensure treatment could be accessed successfully.

Thanks to her determination and commitment to treatment, we are delighted to celebrate that Annaliese is now in remission.

This represents a significant milestone in her journey and is a testament to her strength, perseverance, and positive outlook throughout a very challenging period.

Empowered to socialise and meet new people

The life Annaliese leads today looks very different from the one she once lived. Annaliese chooses to frequently go out in her local community, enjoying activities and experiences that support her well-being and independence.

One of her greatest achievements has been building the confidence to attend a local ladies group independently, where she has developed new friendships, social connections, and interests outside of her family home.

Annaliese lives a happy life with Steps

From losing nine stone, overcoming cancer treatment and achieving remission, to becoming an active and independent member of her local community, Annaliese has achieved so much since moving into Steps, and continues to inspire those around her.

The dedicated support team at Steps are incredibly proud of everything she has achieved!
