Top marks for Abbeyvale's infection, prevention and control

National Care Group's Abbeyvale Care Centre, received top marks for its infection, prevention and control management when inspected recently by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).


The Abbeyvale team were commended for following good practice and for their installation of a new fever thermal imaging system that continuously monitors the temperature levels of staff, the people we support and visitors entering the service.

Charlotte Lumley, North East, Area Operations Manager, was delighted with the feedback in the inspection report and commended the team at Abbeyvale for their diligence in managing the prevention of infection within the service.


“I am so proud to see the positive feedback we received from CQC. My thanks go out to our registered manager, Julie Shield and her amazing team for all their hard work and attention to detail."


Key findings from the inspection included:
  • Measures were in place to prevent visitors from catching and spreading infections
  • Guidance was being following on shielding and social distancing rules
  • PPE was being used effectively and safely
  • Testing was being made available for staff and residents
  • Training and promoting of safety measures were being practiced
  • Infection prevention and control policy was up to date

Quality Director, Mike Cleasby, commented, "During these difficult times there are care homes that have had to close due to shortcomings in their infection control management. I am pleased to see that Abbeyvale received such a positive report and I am confident this will be reflected across all our other National Care Group services.
