'Ecstatic' as team's big effort is recognised

A residential home for adults with brain injuries or neurological conditions has been praised for their response to the coronavirus outbreak with a nomination at the Proud of Barnsley awards.

The small brain injury unit at Rosglen, based at Highfield Range in Darfield, has been recognised for going above and beyond to support its vulnerable residents throughout the pandemic.

The staff, who have been working overtime and self-isolating from loved ones, have made sure that the home has had no positive cases since the start of the outbreak last year.

Kim Dooling, Team Leader at the service, has said the tireless efforts made by the team ensured that residents were kept safe.

She said: “Without a doubt, this has been a very, very hard time for both our staff and residents. One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced."

“Our main priority is the people we serve who are vulnerable and need that face-to-face care. With this in mind, our amazing team picked up additional shifts to cope with the increased demand. Many of them self-isolating from loved ones to ensure we remained Covid-19 free which has been a massive achievement."

“We’ve been constantly cleaning, wearing an abundance of PPE and planning activities to make sure our residents or not only safe, but also happy. Many of our residents get anxious as they often can’t understand when something has changed – but we were determined to keep everything controlled with no outbursts."

“Hopefully they’ll now be a light at the end of the tunnel.”

The team’s efforts have landed them a nomination in the Exceptional Achievement category.

Kim added: “We’re absolutely ecstatic to hear about this. This is a massive team effort so we’re chuffed to bits. “As the team leader, I’m overwhelmed with pride. We can’t wait to continue our work.”
