Outstanding Achievement Award at Shelton Care

Lea Dixon, Senior Support Worker, at Shelton Care Group, Stoke-on-Trent, has won this month's Outstanding Achievement Award.

The monthly award, voted for by the National Care Group Executive Team, recognises the amazing contribution and commitment to care shown by a team or an individual, especially those who go the extra-mile for the people we support.

As the winner, Lea has been awarded with a £100 Love2Shop voucher and a signed certificate from James Allen, Chief Executive Officer.

Here's how Lea went the extra mile…

Lea, who has been Senior Support Worker for less than a year, has been praised for her resilience and passion she shows in her role, which has seen her go way beyond what is expected of her. She leads from the front and has empowered her staff to use their skills and create activities that will benefit the people we support, especially during lockdown.

During the festive period, Lea and her staff team worked with the residents to design Christmas cards, with everyone having a great time putting their creativity to the test and have some fun along the way.

The cards, which included handprints of the people we support and a lovely poem by one of the individuals, touched so many people that the service decided to print off a batch of cards and send them out to the homes of all the individuals’ families. Lea also stayed in contact with a few individuals who were isolating at the time, and regularly sent over activity packs so that they stayed positive and were engaging in activities during their isolation.

As they were isolating during the festive period, Lea knew that the individuals would not be able to see their family members, so she and her team wanted to spread some Christmas cheer by building a ‘Winter Wonderland’ with a life size reindeer and a sleigh.

Such activities have really benefited the people we support at the service, as despite the current climate surrounding COVID-19, Lea has made sure that people remain positive and are still able to continue their development.

Donna Walklet, Registered Manager, commented on Lea’s progress by saying:
“Lea was initially not very confident with becoming a Senior Support Worker but overtime she has stepped up and has made a positive difference to the lives of the people we support and her staff team. She has developed her leadership skills and is constantly trying to find new and creative ways to keep the morale high at the service and is passionate about her role.”
