COVID-19 Update – 13 November 2020

The Risk Committee received update reports from Regions and noted an increase in positive cases in Individuals we support and staff. ROM’s are assured by services they have adequate supplies of PPE; checks are also being carried out to ensure PPE is being worn correctly.

Infection numbers across all Regions were reported and noted. The Committee noted an increase in cases in 3 regions, measures are in place to manage the risk. Further National data on Covid-19 can be found here:

The Regional Operation Managers are keeping the weekly trackers up to date which allows the Covid-19 Committee to be able to monitor and manage any changes in the risk.

With regard to Infection control, it was noted that in respect of clinical waste, this should be separated and disposed of within an orange bag in cases where there have been reported infections. Where no yellow bag is currently used this would not apply. The committee did discuss some regional variances with this as some LA Infection Control teams report that orange bags are only for hospital settings. It was agreed this was good practice and was to be implemented where possible. If a LA felt it was not needed, then this needs to be documented via email.

Care Home Visitor Guidance has been circulated and letters to stakeholders sent out. Registered Managers will need to continue with dynamic risk assessments and follow local any updated or changes to PHE advice.

It was noted that Flu Vaccinations continue to be difficult to source in some areas. This would be kept under review however it was pleasing to note and overall increase in the percentage of individuals we support and employees having received a vaccination.

The People Director gave an update on Bank Staff/ Agency/ Part-time employees who may have second jobs which present an increased risk. The Government are considering minimising staff working in multiple locations. The Human Resource Team are working through a staff tracker and will inform Registered Managers of any discussions required with these employees,

It was pleasing to note that National Care Group have been informed that Residential Homes within the Worcestershire area would be included in a Covid-19 vaccination trial. We look forward to receiving further information in relation to this.

The Risk Committee welcomed the positive news stories coming from services across the organisation and noted appreciation of the hard work being undertaken to ensure individuals remain as active as possible during this lockdown period.
