COVID-19 Update | 11 June 2021

The Committee reviewed actions from the last meeting.

Regional reports were received, and it was again pleasing to note that infection rates amongst individuals we support, and colleagues is reducing to very low levels. It was noted that some services in the Northwest were within areas where the new variant was prevalent. This would be kept under review.

Progress on vaccination rates continues to be really positive. National Care Group continues to respect the views of those not wishing to have the vaccine but hopes that earlier concerns were being addressed. The Committee was asked to encourage colleagues to receive the second vaccine when available.

National Covid data slides had been shared prior to the meeting. It was noted that the Committee needed to restrict travel in high-risk areas to only essential needs at this point. In addition, the impact on holidays abroad and the need to follow isolation guidance was discussed. This needed careful management to understand the impact on services where staff cannot work from home.

A review of recording of LFD testing particularly in offices was currently being undertaken to ensure that colleagues were complying with the requirements expected.

With regard to PPE it was again noted that although difficult, appropriate use must be consistently managed and encouraged at all times at the local level. Failure to do this would be considered a serious matter.

In addition, the Committee were again advised that central supplies of PPE were available if required.

“We are at a stage in the pandemic where infection rates appear to be under control. We will continue to monitor the position across NCG and will respond accordingly particularly if rates arising from any new variants become a concern. The current position does give everyone some relief from what has been a really challenging time. My heartfelt thanks again go to all”. Karen Lewis, COO
