COVID-19 Update | 04 February 2022

The Committee reviewed the actions from the last meeting.

The committee noted an increase in the transmission rate amongst individuals we support, and colleagues which is a concern. Whilst those affected are not seriously unwell, we need to be mindful to continue implementing robust infection control regimes and wear PPE in confined spaces or when using transport.

We continue to recommend vaccinations and booster to all colleagues and individuals we support as the first line of defense.

The People Director updated the committee on the 2 weeks Government consultation process announced on the 31st of January, in relation to the continued rollout of the mandatory vaccine programme. The Government now feel this is not a proportionate requirement to mandate employees to have a mandatory vaccination both within extended settings (NHS/ Supported Living) and for registered care homes. NCG has paused the process for supported living settings during the consultation period, but it is still a requirement to work or enter a care home unless it is for essential maintenance or access is needed by the emergency services. We will not know if the care home legislation is to be revoked until the end of the 2-week consultation period.

We will continue with current recruitment processes in care homes where new starters are required to go through the vaccination process. All non-essential contractors and professionals visiting care homes will need to continue following the current guidance.

We discussed the need to continue with the keyworker meetings with individuals we support so we can discuss if covid-19 is having any continued impact on their physical or mental health.

The Chief Operating Officer thanked those colleagues who have completed all their mandatory training to support the covid support team.

“Although the latest strain of the variant is causing less significant health issues, we need to remain vigilant as it is still impacting on colleague numbers and on individuals we support. We still need to ensure that we are following robust infection control procedures and adhering to PPE guidelines. In addition, we still believe that vaccination and boosters continue to be a key defense in keeping ahead of the risk and we will continue to encourage uptake” Mike Cleasby – Quality Director.
