A simple act of kindness can go a long way

During these challenging times, a simple act of kindness can go a long way, and that is what happened at Regent College, Stoke-on-Trent, where our learners wrote letters to the elderly who were feeling lonely due to not being in contact with people.

Coronavirus has had an impact on all our lives, and as we continue to follow the government guidelines, we understand that people within our community may find it difficult to adjust to these changes.

“Due to current restrictions, we were unable to visit the care home like we did in the past,” said Wendy Williams, Principal at Regent College. “We looked for alternative ways to support the elderly who feel lonely or isolated during the current lockdown restrictions.”

Learners wrote some lovely messages and drawings which are sure to cheer people, whilst our colleagues worked closely with key workers to find the best way to safely deliver the letters to those who needed them most.

While it is a small gesture, sending letters is an incredible way to bring joy to their life, spark conversations and alleviate isolation that people might experience from constantly being indoors.

“It has been fantastic seeing the learners be so engaged with this activity, they were able to spread some positivity during these difficult times and give back to their local community,” said Wendy.
