Supporting individuals to attend events

Your Life Care and Support (YLCS) staff have been planning and organising activities and events that Jonathan would like to attend throughout the year.   Due to his autism and complex needs, staff used pictures and easy read guides to help communicate with Jonathan to understand what his likes and interests are. This aided Jonathan to communicate his preferences and enabled him to make his own choices of which events he would like to attend.   Jonathan has a passion for music and with the pictures given to him, he asked his staff team if he could attend a music festival. His team started working on contacting the organises at the Kubix Festival, which takes place in the North East, and arranged for tickets for the event.   The organises were able to give two free tickets for the festival and Jonathan was able to attend it during the summer. Jonathan had a fantastic time at the Kubix Festival, where he was able to enjoy listening to his favourite artists and music.   He is very much looking forward to attending another music festival in the future and his staff team have started working on finding one that he would enjoy.   Julie Cowens, Registered Manager, said:

  Through effective communication and a collaborative effort for his support staff, Jonathan was able to express his wishes and make them happen. For Jonathan, this has had a positive impact on his wellbeing, as he continues to improve on his engagement with others and as well as being part of the local community.
